| Internship Opportunities

CWS offers internships to interested students from a variety of academic disciplines. We typically receive two to three times as many applications as we have spots available, so placements are competitive. Review the information below and then apply online via our Internship Application Form

Application Due dates:

Hours: Internships require a minimum of 12 hours per week commitment during normal business hours of 8:30am-4:30pm. Occasionally, after hours and weekend work may be available.

Internship Focus Areas: Intern duties vary greatly depending on current needs and opportunities. Regardless of major or area of interest, all interns are expected to help in all areas of our work as needed. Interns may indicate their preference in the following focus areas available in our office:

K-12 Education Interns will spend more time helping children register for school, get required vaccinations and school physicals, and doing after school tutoring.

Adult ESL & CO Interns will spend more time leading and assisting in ESL and Cultural Orientation classes, which teach basic English and topics like transportation, housing, and cultural adjustment.

Immigration Interns will spend more time assisting our immigration counselor with citizenship applications, adjustment of status, petitions to bring relatives to the United States, and other immigration matters.

Case Management Interns will spend time assisting the Case Management team and help provide services to clients.

Health Interns will spend more time helping clients with scheduling doctors’ appointments and LogistiCare taxis, teaching clients to get to their medical appointment by bus, and conducting public health education.

Intensive Case Management Interns will spend time assisting with the organization and management of summer activities for children, groups for adults and community events.

Community Engagement Interns will assist with communications, including press releases, web design, written and graphic content updates, social media, marketing initiatives, and informational materials creation.

Additional General Job Duties:
– Assist with greeting clients, answering phones, and scheduling appointments at our reception desk
– Help staff maintain and update case files and case notes
– Teach or tutor children or adults in English or cultural orientation sessions
– Provide transportation in personal vehicle to medical or social service appointments
– Informal interpretation (if the intern is fluent in a second language)
– Assist staff with other duties as needed.

Due to high community interest in refugee resettlement and the schedules of our busy staff, we are not able to accommodate all students who would like to work with us. Interns are therefore chosen based on how well their schedule, availability, skills and interests meet the needs of our clients and our staff.
